Space Enhancements in Revit MEP 2010

Image
Space Enhancements in Revit MEP 2010 Revit MEP 2010 has many new features. Here are just a couple when working with Spaces. Spaces have been enhanced in two major areas. First the ability to create spaces has been improved with the addition of the Place Space Automatically tool. This will allow users to place all the spaces for the entire model with a single click. This is a huge time saver for creating spaces. The new Place Space Automatically tool. The second enhancement to spaces is found in the properties. The properties have been improved to give us the ability to further define the space type. The space type has been expanded to include Energy analysis settings. These include the ability to specify an Occupancy Schedule, Lighting Schedule, and Power Schedule. These schedules will dictate usage percentage factors. If the proposed building will be primarily used between the hours of 8:00-5:00, these can be specified and taken into account in analysis. A custom Occupancy Schedule f...

Whats New in Revit Structure 2016

Image
Whats New in Revit Structure 2016 Truss Cord Location Revit now presents you with the ability to control the rotation of Truss Chords while rotating Trusses. You are able to have the Truss Chord rotate with the Truss, and allow it to  maintain its alignment , or deactivate this setting to have the chords keep their  original  alignment. Local Coordinate System When working in Analytical loads, there are a few updates available with the  Local  Coordinate System .  The LCS widget now appears on curved structural objects, rather than just linear objects. And when this widget is placed on an object with a load, the widget will orient itself to display the  direction  of the load. Area loads  have additional features in the 2016 version, which include having the ability to place Hosted Area Loads on arc walls. Rebar Display Performance Minor updates have been applied to the display of  Rebar  for Structural models. N...

Whats New in Revit 2017

Image
Whats New in Revit 2017 Upgrade Information for Revit 2017 Some new and changed features of Revit 2017 result in certain behaviors for upgraded models. Review this information before upgrading your models. (Note: For more upgraded features in Revit 2017 please look the link below after the article.) Text Measurement   The method for measuring text size is changed so that the Text Size parameter more accurately represents the height of a capital letter (similar to AutoCAD). Previously, Revit measured the size of text from the font baseline to the ascender line. Since most characters do not extend to the ascender line, physically measuring the font may not have produced expected results.  The size of text now reports using the cap height, which measures from the baseline to the top of a capital letter M as seen in the image below. This change affects all text in Revit. After upgrading a model, please review all views and sheets to verify the changes to your text instances. ...

Welcome to Revit Architecture 2009

Image
Welcome to Revit Architecture 2009 Its that time again! Time get excited about what the new features are in the up coming release of Autodesk products. My favorite time of the year! Revit Architecture 2009 will be here soon. Inside of it will be new features and enhancements that will make your work easier. Here is a sneak peek at a couple of my favorite enhancements. Dimension Enhancements Revit Architecture 2009 makes documenting your designs even easier. With new dimension capabilities, users can dimension to intersections and arc centers. New dimension text formatting enables users to apply common text effects, such as bold, italics, and underline, to their dimension text. A second new addition to dimensions is the ability to override dimensions with text. While this feature enables users to override dimensions with text such as Varies, See Stair Plans or 11 MIN and thereby achieve new flexibility in their documents, the feature helps to maintain model integrity by disallowing...

Virtual Reality and Revit in the Real World Success Story with HTC Vive Enscape 3D

Image
Virtual Reality and Revit in the Real World Success Story with HTC Vive Enscape 3D I know every single person who reads this blog is familiar with the explosion of Virtual Reality (VR) over the last few years. I know, because I have also been saturated with everything "VR". My first personal experience with VR was using Google Cardboard over two years ago... As you can imagine, VR has come a long way since that post. Initially, emerging technologies can battle with the concept of pragmatism. The first thing you hear with something like AR, VR, Dynamo, etc.. is "cool, but how can I use it in the 'real-world'"? Today, I wanted to talk about a recent real-world experience with VR. More specifically, with Revit, theHTC Vive, and Enscape 3D. ... Continue reading to hear about the success story and my thoughts on the aforementioned technologies (including a breakdownof the hardware and software we used)...
